Why Choose Fostering Devon

We are part of Devon County Council, and are here to provide safe, caring homes for the 700 plus children and young people in Devon who are not able to live with their birth families.

Why choose us?

We alone are ultimately responsible for the children in care in Devon, so why foster with anyone else? You can read a copy of our Foster Carer Charter here.

  • Priority
Fostering for us means that you are more likely to be able to care for a child sooner than if you foster through in Independent Fostering Agency.  We always prioritise our own approved carers, and approach them first before talking to other agencies because we know our network of foster carers deliver the highest standard of care. Our carers therefore have higher occupancy levels with shorter gaps between placements than many other fostering agencies.
  • Local
If you live in Devon then it makes sense to be working as a foster carer for Fostering Devon – we are right on your doorstep so you can count on us to be here when you need us. We need a diverse range of carers right across the county so we have the best chance of matching children with suitable families. We also try our hardest to find local foster carers so that they can stay in their own community despite being unable to live at home. This means that children and young people who are fostered by Fostering Devon carers have better outcomes because they can stay close to their family and friends, and stay at the same school.
  • Knowledge
Being part of Devon County Council means that Fostering Devon is part of the core services that work directly with the children, their families and the foster carers. They are all under the same one big umbrella so there is no middle agency to deal with, which means relevant information can be shared quickly, efficiently and accurately for the children’s benefit.
  • Not for profit
By choosing to foster for the local authority you ensure that 100% of the council’s financial resources go into supporting Devon’s children because, unlike most Independent Fostering Agencies, we operate strictly as a not-for-profit making service, thereby keeping Devon’s children at the very heart of everything we do and focussing fully on finding the right carer for the right child.
  • Be the best
Our network of foster carers deliver the highest standards of care because we have worked with them to make sure they are the best they can be. We know the children they care for will benefit from the specially tailored practical, emotional and financial support and thorough training all our carers receive from our excellent team of professionals.
