Fostering Devon attends Spectrum at Met Office
Posted on: 2 March 2020
As part of the drive to recruit more foster carers for Devon from the LGBTI community, and coinciding with LGBT+ Fostering week from 2nd – 8th March, Fostering Devon attended Spectrum – an LGBTI event organised by Civil Service Local and hosted by the Met Office, celebrating LGBT+ History Month 2020. There were a whole series of talks and workshops as well as stalls representing a multitude of organisations.
Charles and Claire from the Fostering Assessment team alongside foster carers Dan and Suzy attended the event and spoke to interested staff from the Civil service and Met Office. Staff expressed a mixture of casual and firm interest in fostering and a number of potential foster carers registered their interest.
Charles Sumner, Team Manager of the Fostering Devon assessment team was interviewed by Met Office filming and was very pleased to attend this event:
‘It was a real pleasure to attend this event and promote Fostering Devon to the LGBTI community and Met Office staff. It was so helpful to have Dan and Suzy to share their different experiences of fostering. As well as meeting local Devon residents, we met several prospective carers from further afield and we were able to answer their questions and encourage them to apply to their own respective Local Authorities. I hope we really helped to encourage others from the LGBT+ community to overcome any reservations and consider fostering for Devon.’
