Guide: The fostering process
Devon County Council is ultimately responsible for children in care in Devon. Over the years we have met hundreds and hundreds of people interested in fostering children.
We understand how daunting the approval process may seem, but there is no need to worry, we will work closely alongside you every step of the way. We are here to help you become an excellent foster carer, and remember you can opt out at any time.
Use the sections on the left as an informal guide to the assessment process.
Once you’ve been approved, our team of fostering experts will start working to match you with a child or young person. Their age and length of stay with you will depend on the type of fostering you have been approved for, and the individual child’s care plan.
On-going learning and development is an essential part of your role as a foster carer with us. You will receive regular training to help you in your work and enhance your skills, alongside the support and guidance of your own supervising social worker.
